Staff bikes - Si/Vapour Carbon

A common question when discussing bikes with folks in the shop is "What bike do you ride" - so here's the first of a few articles where we outline the bikes that all of us at 18 Bikes are riding.
I've just built up my new 'cross bike, so we're kicking off with that!
Genesis Vapour Carbon CX10
Having come to the realisation that I'm not riding my mountain bike enough to justify quite such a nice one (Santa Cruz 5010 Carbon CC!) I'm in the process of selling that to fund a new cross bike and more budget friendly mountain bike. The mountain bike's due October, with a new brand to the shop - so I've started with the cross bike.
My commute/town bike is a Genesis Vapour Aluminium, which is set up with wide slicks for road use. I've had a second set of wheels with knobbly Maxxis Mud Wrestler tyres for a while, but realistically never find the time to swap them about. With 3 Peaks on the agenda for 2018, a lighter bike dedicated to off road makes a lot of sense. The Genesis Vapour Carbon CX10 fits the bill, but I've made a few changes of course!
- Hope Hoops, Pro 4 Hubs with 20 Five rims
- Maxxis Mud Wrestler tyres, tubeless
- Fizik Kurve saddle
- Drivetrain swap to a 1x10 setup. Sunrace 11-40t cassette, Lindarets Roadlink, Hope chainring
- Easton EA70 AX flared bar
The plan is to fit a dropper post, perhaps even running with internal cabling from the now defunct left hand STI....
My first shakedown ride was on holiday in Cornwall, a quick blast along the Camel trail to Bodmin. All well, not even a holiday puncture! A few rides around Houndkirk now I'm back and it seems much more at home on the proper rough stuff!
Shop with confidence.
