Since 1976, there's only been one headset to own- a Chris King! Unbeatable quality and huge lifespans have always been the main targets for Chris King, and there's no doubt this has been achieved!
Chris King are one of the few companies we know of to manufacture everything in house- including the bearings for their headsets and hubs. This gives them control over absolutely everything they make, and means that their products are designed to work, not designed to suit "off-the-shelf" components.
We rarely use anything other than a King headset for our custom builds-and highly recommend fitting with a headset press, after the headtube has been correcty reamed and faced.
The hubs are ace too- the unique Ringdrive freewheel mechanism engages 3 times faster than a standard pickup hun, meaning you have to backpedal less to get back to driving the bike forward. This mechanism is incredibly strong too- at Chris King they SHATTER cassettes before the freewheel let go! (The main advantage is the trademark Chris King buzz- lets everyone know you're about to pass them!)
Warranties are huge- 10 years on the headset and 5 years on the hubs. Despite this, King are rarely taken up on this, it's just not needed!
Chris King are also highly dedicated to minimising their impact on the planet. Their custom designed factory in Oregon includes extensive materials and resource saving features, such as natural lighting, re-use/recycling policies and a zero-waste water system in the anodising plant.
